Barcelona and Leeds United have announced that they have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Raphinha to the Catalunyan club.

The Brazilian winger’s career has been on the rise since he got Deco on board as his agent and moved to Europe. He had brief stints in Portugal with Vitoria Guimaraes and Sporting Lisbon before moving to France to join Rennes. Raphinha played an instrumental role in guiding the French club to the Champions League in 2019.

Leeds United quickly snapped him up and he was a standout performer under Marco Bielsa. Raphinha scored 17 goals in 60 appearances in the Premier League.

The English club announced on Wednesday that an agreement has been reached with Barcelona for the transfer of the Brazilian winger.

“We can confirm that an agreement in principle has been reached with FC Barcelona for the transfer of Raphinha. The player will now undergo a medical in Spain,” said Leeds United.

Barcelona also issued a similar statement on their website confirming the agreement with Leeds United.

“FC Barcelona and Leeds United Football Club have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Raphael Dias Belloli, Raphinha, pending the player passing his medical,” said Barcelona.

Chelsea were leading the race for Raphinha at one point and even had a 60 million pounds bid accepted by Leeds. However, the player had his heart set on a move to Catalunya.

After the Premier League club refused to budge on their price for the Brazilian, Barcelona decided to stump up the money for him.

Raphinha becomes Barcelona’s third signing of the summer after the La Liga giants were able to snap up Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen. Both men joined on free transfers, with Kessie coming in from 2021-22 Serie A champions, AC Milan and Christensen coming in from Chelsea.
