England vs India: Arshdeep Singh wears a broad smile after getting his India cap from Rohit Sharma

Indian left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has been handed a debut after a string of impressive performances in recent times. Arshdeep, who was not picked up for the Ireland series, had two excellent games in the warm-ups for India, under the leadership of Dinesh Karthik.

Arshdeep, who has been hailed as a yorker specialist saw his rise in the Indian Premier League. He took 10 wickets from 14 matches, bowling the tough overs at the end and only conceded at the economy of 7.7 runs per over.
In the warm-up games for India, Karthik used him as a strike bowler as well, where the pacer showed that he had the ability to take wickets at the top.

The pacer joins India’s long list of players who have been fast tracked from the Indian Premier League, for showing tremendous talent.

This game is also the return of Rohit Sharma, who had to miss the last Test match after testing positive for Covid-19. The captain said that the toss that he was perfectly fine.

Sharma was spotted at the nets of Edgbaston getting match-ready for the white-ball series, when India were playing under the captaincy of Jasprit Bumrah.

Coach Rahul Dravid has said that he would like to fix on the final 20 members for the T20 World Cup as soon as possible, and hence this series, especially the opening T20I becomes very important for the young pacer.
