Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has said he is hopeful that Virat Kohli will recover in time for the second ODI against England.
The former Indian captain missed the first ODI on Tuesday due to a mild groin strain as India thrashed the hosts and won the game by 10 wickets. Kohli sustained the injury during India’s third T20I loss to England on Sunday.
Bumrah was the star of the show on Tuesday as he ran through the English batting lineup and ended the day with figures of six for 19.
After the match, the Indian pacer opened up on the status of Kohli and said that he is hoping to see him back in the fold for the second ODI on Thursday.
“I don’t know the status of his injury because I did not play the last game (3rd T20I). Hopefully, he recovers, but I really don’t know the status of his injury,” said Bumrah.
Bumrah also talked about England after the first ODI. The 28-year-old said that he has no doubt about the quality of the hosts despite their horror show on Tuesday.
The Indian pacer further commented that England have got good results and said that players would like to test themselves against them against good teams in difficult conditions.
He concluded by expressing his happiness with the overall performance in the first ODI.
“Of course, no doubt about the quality of the England side. They’ve got a lot of good results and whenever you do well against a very good team and they’ve got a lot of success, you always want to test yourself against very good players and in difficult conditions, yeah. Very happy with the overall performance, and yeah, today was a good day,” said Bumrah.
The second ODI in the three-match series will take place on Thursday at Lord’s cricket stadium.
