England skipper Jos Buttler lauded Suryakumar Yadav for scoring a century in the third and final T20I at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. On Sunday, July 10, the right-handed Yadav scored 117 runs off 55 balls with 14 fours and four sixes, but his knock went in vain as the Three Lions beat India by 17 runs.

Yadav got to his fifty off 32 balls, after which he took only 16 more balls to get to his century. He also became the sixth Indian batter after Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Deepak Hooda and Harmanpreet Kaur to score a century in T20 Internationals.

Yadav got out to Moeen Ali in the penultimate over of the run-chase when India needed 24 runs off the last seven balls.

“Good fun, more like what we’re used to seeing with the bat. The wicket didn’t have some of the pace we sometimes here but it was an incredible knock from Yadav, one of the best hundreds I’ve seen,” Buttler was quoted as saying.

Buttler also heaped praise on Moeen for bowling the 19th over and getting the prized wicket of Suryakumar, although he went for 20 runs in the over. Yadav smashed the spinner for two fours and a six, after which Moeen made amends.

“Guys backed their yorker, a bit of lateral movement. Delighted for those guys. Mo was really keen to bowl [the penultimate over], a selfless character and keen to go with him,” Buttler added.

After being asked to chase down 215, India managed to score only 198 for nine in 20 overs. However, the Men in Blue won the series 2-1 after victories in Southampton and Birmingham.
