Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi reckoned that Team India would be one of the favourites to win the T20 World Cup later this year in Australia. On Saturday, July 9, the Men in Blue won the second T20I against England by 49 runs at Edgbaston in Birmingham and took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

After setting a target of 171 for the Three Lions to chase down, India bowled their opponents out for 121 in 17 overs. Fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar won the Player of the Match after he picked up three crucial wickets during England’s run-chase.

Even as Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal picked up two wickets apiece, Hardik Pandya and Harshal Patel accounted for one scalp each.

Afridi, who last played international cricket back in 2018, lauded the Indian bowlers for putting in a spirited effort.

“India have played outstanding cricket and deserve to win the series. Really impressive bowling performance, they’ll surely be one of the favourites for the T20 World Cup in Australia.”

Earlier on Thursday, India bowled England out for 148 and won the first T20I by 50 runs at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.

Rohit Sharma also secured his 14th win on the trot as the skipper of the Indian team in T20Is. Jos Buttler’s team, in the meantime, will be looking to salvage some pride in the last game of the series.

The third and final match of the series is scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 10 at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
