India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana slips to 9th place in women’s ODI rankings for batters

India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana on Tuesday slipped to ninth position in women’s updated ODI rankings for batters.

The left-hander was in eighth position, but following the series against Sri Lanka, she moved one place down. Mandhana scored 4, 94* and 6 in three ODIs against Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, India’s Deepti Sharma consolidated seventh position in the latest chart for all-rounders. Deepti took 6 wickets, including a three-fer, in three ODIs. The left-hander also played a crucial knock of 22 not out in the first match.

India clean swept the ODI series 3-0 against Sri Lanka earlier in July. India captain Harmanpreet Kaur moved up one place to take 13th following her superb 75.

Shafali Verma (jumps three places to 33rd) and Pooja Vastrakar (up eight spots to 53rd) also saw their rankings boosted. India spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad jumped to take ninth place. Gayakwad returned with the figures of 3/36 in the final match of the ODI series to rise two places.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced the squad for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. For the first time, cricket will feature in the showpiece event. India will take on Australia, Pakistan and Barbados in their Group A matches on July 29, July 31 and August 3 respectively.
