India vs England 5th Test, Birmingham Weather Forecast: Rain threat looms large on Day 1

Jasprit Bumrah will look to stamp his authority as a captain when he walks in to lead the Indian Test team against a new era England in the rescheduled fifth Test, starting on Friday.

India are 2-1 up in the series, which could not be completed last year because of COVID-19 cases in the India camp ahead of the final match at Old Trafford. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has also been confirmed as Bumrah’s vice-captain.

India are on the brink of securing their first Test series victory in England since 2007. However, they face an England side riding high on momentum under the new leadership of coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes.

The 3-0 demolition of New Zealand with three tricky chases completed in style has shown that England, under new coach Brendon McCullum, have de-constructed their style sheet as far as Test matches are concerned.

Sam Billings will take on wicketkeeping duties for England in the rearranged fifth and final Test against India starting Friday, while James Anderson replaces Jamie Overton in the XI.

Billings was drafted in at short notice for his second Test appearance against New Zealand last week as a COVID substitute for Ben Foakes. Anderson comes back into the equation at Edgbaston in a series decider postponed from last year, with India leading 2-1.

According to Accuweather, the first two sessions of Day 1 could be hampered due to scattered thunderstorms in Birmingham. However, the chances of rain will decrease as the day progresses. There is a 50 percent chance of rain during the day, and it is expected to drop to 40 percent by night.
