Former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh praised Rohit Sharma for returning to form during India’s opening ODI against England on Tuesday, July 12 at the Kennington Oval. After restricting the Three Lions to 110 in 25.2 overs, India chased the target down with as many as 188 balls to spare.

Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan stitched together an unbeaten 114-run partnership for the opening wicket. The Nagpur-born Rohit stayed unbeaten on 76 off 58 balls with the help of seven fours and five sixes. Even as Dhawan took his time to settle into his rhythm, Rohit didn’t shy away from playing his strokes.

Yuvraj also had words of praise for Jasprit Bumrah, who won the Player of the Match award after picking up a six-wicket haul for only 19 runs. After the pacer picked up Jason Roy and Joe Root for ducks, the speedster didn’t look back.

Yuvraj, one of India’s greatest all-rounders in limited-overs cricket, took to Twitter and wrote, “A spell to remember for @Jaspritbumrah93 simply the best !! Nice to see @ImRo45 get back in form good start keep the momentum #indiavsengland.”

After the match, Rohit said that India opted to field first due to the overcast conditions. The veteran was of the opinion that the conditions suited the fast bowlers to a large extent.

“Looking at the pitch and the overhead conditions, it [bowling] was the right call to make. We never really worry about the conditions… We saw during the T20s as well when the pitch was flat; we came out and did the job. Today was more suitable for the fast bowlers,” Rohit was quoted as saying after the match.

The second ODI will take place on July 14 at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
