Red Bull driver and reigning World Champion Max Verstappen has claimed that the relationship he shares with Sergio Perez is the best he has had with a teammate during his time in Formula One.
Verstappen started his F1 journey at Toro Rosso where current Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz was his partner. He then linked up with Daniel Ricciardo at Red Bull in 2016 before the Australian left to join Renault. The 24-year-old then had partnerships with Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon before Perez joined the team last season.
Both men have been in top form this season with the reigning World Champion leading the driver’s standings with 208 points, 38 ahead of Championship rival Charles Leclerc. Perez is currently in third spot with 151 points.
Speaking about his relationship with teammates, Verstappen, as quoted by Express, said that he started off very young in F1 and had a good relationship with Ricciardo at Red Bull.
The Red Bull driver stated that he is a completely different person and his relationship with Perez is probably the best he has had with a teammate in the sport, because he has matured a lot over the years.
“I started of course very young in Formula 1 and I had, I think, also a very good relationship with Daniel. But at the time I was still only 18, 19 and I think where I am now as a person is completely different.”
“So I would say what I have now with Checo is definitely the best, just because I matured a lot, and I think that also helps a lot with just how you approach each other,” said Verstappen.
The next race on the F1 calendar will be the French Grand Prix and it will take place during this upcoming weekend. The main race will be on 24th July.
