Leg-spinner Yasir Shah has become the fifth-highest wicket-taker for Pakistan in Test cricket. The tweaker accomplished the milestone during Pakistan’s opening Test against Sri Lanka that started on Saturday, July 16 at the Galle International Stadium.
Shah got past the legendary Abdul Qadir after he dismissed Angelo Mathews on Day 1 of the Test match. The veteran got rid of Mathews, who got out on duck after failing to open his account in 15 balls. Sri Lanka were reduced to 68 for four in 20.5 overs after opting to bat first.
Earlier, Shah also accounted for the crucial wicket of Kusal Mendis, who was batting on 21 off 35 with the help of three fours. Shah finished with impressive figures of 21-4-66-2 as Pakistan bowled Sri Lanka out for 222 in 66.1 overs.
Shah has currently picked up 237 wickets from 47 matches with 16 five-wicket hauls and three 10-wicket hauls. Qadir, on the other hand, accounted for 236 wickets from 67 matches with 15 fifers and five 10-wicket hauls.
As far as the ongoing match is concerned, Pakistan are trailing by 198 runs with eight wickets left in their first innings. Prabath Jayasuriya and Kasun Rajitha have got rid of Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq respectively.
Maheesh Theekshana bowled nine overs, but couldn’t pick up a wicket. Shaheen Shah Afridi was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan after he took four wickets for 14.1 overs.
Even as Shah and Hasan Ali picked up two wickets apiece, Naseem Shah and Mohammad Nawaz took one scalp each.
