India’s stand-in captain Shikhar Dhawan has opened up about the upcoming West Indies series and said that it will present a great opportunity for the team to show their talent.

Dhawan will leading the side in Rohit Sharma’s absence and Ravindra Jadeja acting as his deputy. With the absence of big names like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant, the Indian team will be banking on the young blood in the squad to make a big impact.

In a video released by BCCI on their official Twitter account, recorded after the series win in England, the southpaw opened up about the series and said that the team will enjoy the tour. While Dhawan admitted that the weather will be challenging, the opener said that the players are well-prepared and ready for the challenge.

He also said that there are a lot of youngsters in the squad, they’re all mature and will get exposure by playing in West Indies. Dhawan concluded by saying that the series will be a great opportunity for the squad to peak and show their talent.

“Of course, we will enjoy the tour. The weather in West Indies will be a bit challenging and difficult. But I feel the boys are well prepared. Just like how Siraj performed today, they aren’t just waiting for the opportunity but there is preparation behind it.”

“So the youngsters who will be going on the tour, they aren’t just young but they’re mature as well and they will get the exposure playing in West Indies. And they have played in the IPL as well.”

“With all this experience and youthness in our ranks, I feel we will have a great series. And lots of smiles, lots of wins. Now we have won such a big series in England, but everybody couldn’t do their best.”

“So, West Indies is a great opportunity for us to peak over there and show our talent,” said Dhawan.
