Wimbledon 2022 | Novak Djokovic cruises to his 8th final, beats local boy Cameron Norrie 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4

World number three Novak Djokovic shook off early jitters in the semi-finals of Wimbledon 2022 and posted a strong win against local boy, ninth seed Cameron Norrie.

The Serbian, who is in the hunt for his seventh title in the Grand Slam, lost the first set after a dominating start from the Brit. Novak failed to find rhythm in the first set, losing out to flat backhands from Norrie, who came out with a set game plan against last year’s runner-up.

After losing the first set 2-6, Novak tried to get back in the game, but found it hard against Norrie, who remained to be on song. However, a slip on his right ankle, dented Norrie’s momentum and it shifted the flow of the game. The local boy seemed to be slightly restricted in his movement, but most importantly, completely lost concentration against the Serbian player.

Djokovic took full advantage of the unforced errors from the British player and dominated the second and the third set, to turn the game on its head.

From there it was just a matter of time for the Serbian to reach his eighth final at the Wimbledon.

After losing the second and the third set, Norrie desperately tried to find his initial rhythm back in the game. And he did well in the fourth set, to keep it alive. However, an on song Novak Djokovic was too much to handle for him and he lost the fourth set by 4-6.

Speaking after his win in the on court interview, Djokovic said that he did not play well in the first set of the game and did not manage to hit the ball as well as he would have liked to. He said that it was the hottest day at the competition so far, which impacted him at the start.

Djokovic has now set up the final clash against Nick Kyrgios, who admitted ahead of the game that he was quite nervous. Kyrgios has been at the centre of the limelight throughout the tournament for his on court and off court exploits.
