The third seed Ons Jabeur of Tunisia proved too strong for Mirjam Bjorklund, defeating the Swedish qualifier in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 in the first round at Wimbledon on Monday.

Jabeur, who played with Serena Williams in the latter’s return to professional tennis after a one-year layoff in doubles at Eastbourne, served dominantly against Bjorklund. The match marked a debut appearance at the grasscourt Slam for the Swedish this year.

The first round match between Jabeur and Bjorklund lasted for only 54 minutes on Day 1, which was hit by rain. The opening day of Wimbledon saw regular rain delays.

Jabeur entered Wimbledon after winning the grasscourt title in Berlin earlier this month. She broke Bjorklund’s serve thrice to take the first set and a single break was sufficient for the Tunisian in the second to seal victory.

Meanwhile, Alison Riske-Amritraj progressed to the second round after beating Ylena In-Albon 6-2, 6-4.
